Following a loss, where they placed fourth on the road at Penn State, the West Virginia gymnastics team is on four-meet losing streak in the regular season.
Facing No. 22 Penn State, Towson and Ball State, the Mountaineers would achieve a season-high team score.
In the opening beam event, West Virginia placed fourth, scoring a 48.925. A fault from Abbie Pierson left the team with a large deficit early on. The Mountaineers remained in last following the floor event, tallying their total to 98.075.
West Virginia eventually overtook Ball State for third during the vault event, garnering a total of 147.05. Although an encouraging start, bars would again be the team’s lowest-scored event, placing them back in fourth with a score of 48.75.
Behind Penn State, Towson and Ball State, West Virginia would place fourth with a total score of 195.800, their highest yet.
With only three more meets until the Big 12 Championship on Mar. 23, West Virginia is currently ranked No. 51 in the nation.
The Mountaineers are next in action at home on Mar. 3, facing Towson, Western Michigan and Pitt. This will be a part of the team’s celebration of 50 years of Mountaineer Gymnastics.
