In their last home meet of their regular season on Sunday, the West Virginia gymnastics team beat No. 44 Rutgers, 195.55 to 195.325.
On the team’s senior night, this would be the last meet at the WVU Coliseum for seniors Kiana Lewis and Ellen Collins, as well as fifth-year Abbie Pierson.
Beginning on the vault, Jayden McDonnell and Sierra Muns opened the scoring for the Mountaineers, both scoring a 9.675. Further performances from Kiana Lewis and Abbie Pierson would lead the team to a strong start of a 48.725.
Moving to the bars event, all five gymnasts scored above a 9.6, tallying the team’s total to a 97.225. With a return from junior Anna Leigh, who suffered an ankle injury on Feb. 24, she would accomplish a season-high on bars, scoring a 9.75.
With their next rotation on the beam, freshman Julia Brown paced the squad with a 9.875, her highest in the regular season. Sophomore Emma Wehry’s 9.825 capped the event for the Mountaineers, tallying their total to 145.325.
Finishing up on the floor exercise, Collins and Pierson would break their season highs in their last meet at the Coliseum, both scoring above a 9.8. Their last rotation would tally the Mountaineers to a grand total of 195.55.
This result would be the Mountaineer’s sixth win in their regular season, making their overall record 6-14.
With only one more meet until the Big 12 Championship on Mar. 23, West Virginia is currently ranked No.51 in the nation.
The Mountaineers final match-up is on the road against Minnesota on Mar. 17, with a tip-off set for 3 p.m. and being streamed on ESPN+.
