West Virginia wrestling season wrapped up in the medal rounds of the 2024 NCAA championships on Saturday, with true freshman Ty Watters placing fourth at 149 and senior Peyton Hall placing seventh at 165.
In the consolation, semifinals Watters would knock of the No. 2 seed and three-time PAC 12 champion Kyle Parco by pinning him in the third period (6:48) after being down after the first two periods.
Hall, a four-time NCAA qualifier and two-time All-American would avenge a from earlier in the tournament by defeating No. 8-seeded Antrell Taylor of Nebraska. Taylor defeated Hall 11-9 in the second round of the championship bracket, but Hall would end up winning the seventh-place match by a 2-1 decision.
In the third place match at 149, Watters was matched up against No. 7-seeded Tyler Kasak from Penn State. Kasak would get a takedown in the first period to go up 3-0, before Watters escaped making the score 3-1. Watters would get an escape point again in the second period to make it a one point match with a score of 3-2. However, Kasak would hold onto his lead, not letting a takedown in the third period, taking third place, while Watters would place fourth.
West Virginia with 31.5 team points in the tournament, with five wrestlers competing.
The finals will be at 7 p.m. and televised on ESPN, which no WVU wrestlers will be competing in.
