West Virginia wide receiver Hudson Clement was one of the most electric players with the ball in his hands throughout the entire country. Now, going into the 2024 season, the former walk-on is in position to make even more noise.

A native from Martinsburg, West Virginia, Clement walked-on for the Mountaineers his freshman year but would not stay a walk-on for very long. After redshirting his first season in 2022, his redshirt season would make a name Mountaineer fans will never forget.

Some unfortunate injuries early in the season for head coach Neal Brown’s team, gave Clement an opportunity to be a starter in week two against Duquesne. Seizing the opportunity would be a severe understatement. Clement would explode and put up five catches for 177 yards and three, yes three, touchdowns.

Immediately following the game , Neal Brown would announce in the locker room that Clement, would be put on scholarship. As expected, a moment was created as his team going crazy for him was caught on video.

In his senior season at Martinsburg, Clement put up one of the best seasons in the country and made it clear he was more than a typical walk-on talent. He finished his senior season with 87 catches for 1,709 yards and 23 touchdowns. He also led his team to a Class AAA State Championship, putting up video game numbers to lead his team to a 62-21 win.

In the state title game, Clement rushed for four touchdowns and caught four more to finish with eight total touchdowns. He also added an interception to go with a near perfect offensive game on the biggest stage.

The awards piled up that season for Clement. He was awarded with the Randy Moss Award as the state’s best receiver, earned All-State First Team honors, named Maxpreps West Virginia Player of the Year, and was also the MetroNews State Player of the Year.

That electric play-style was carried up the next level last season. Clement averaged 21.8 yards per catch, hauling in 22 passes for a total of 480 yards and four touchdowns. His big play ability has created a fan favorite in Morgantown and the nickname ‘Huddy Tuddy’ by Mountaineer fans.

His play against Houston may ultimately be overshadowed by the Hail Mary loss for West Virginia. But right before that, Clement was able to take a pass on fourth down 50 yards for a touchdown to give the Mountaineers a four-point lead with 12 seconds remaining.

This past spring game, Clement also pulled in a touchdown pass in the corner of the endzone from Nicco Marchiol and fans are already buzzing about the bright future Clement could have in the Gold and Blue.
