MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (July 22, 2024) – The West Virginia University tennis team was named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team for the 11th consecutive year, and seven Mountaineers were named ITA Scholar-Athletes for the 2023-24 season.

Redshirt sophomore Maja Dodik, juniors Michaela Kucharova, Catherine Wassick and Tatiana Lipatova, senior Momoko Nagato and graduate students Ting-Pei Chang and Love-Star Alexis were named ITA Scholar Athletes.

“We are very proud of the team and the players who have been named scholar-athletes,” head coach Miha Lisac said. “The awards speak to the dedication that our team and players have to their academic success and future. For many years, we have been one of the leaders in the conference academically, and it could not happen without the support of [Academic Counselor] Jeremy Lannon and [Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Services and Wellness] Brittney O’Dell.”

Nagato was named a scholar-athlete every year during her career. This marks the third selection for Alexis, Kucharova and Chang, and the second for Dodik and Wassick. This is the first time Lipatova earned the honor.

To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must meet a set of academic and athletic standards of having a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and be listed on the institutional eligibility form.

To be named an ITA All-Academic Team a program must hold a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale), all student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
