For the second straight Olympics, Amy Cashin will be representing both Australia, and WVU in the Summer Olympic games while competing in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase event.
Cashin was a cross country and track and field runner for WVU for four years and graduated from the University in 2017. From there, the runner has gone on to compete in long distance races at the professional level, scoring different endorsements while running in races across the globe.
However, Cashin still found her way back home. For the past couple of seasons, the Australian has been helping out the WVU team train, and really help push current senior and first time Olympian Ceili McCabe to the level she has gotten to.
During the 2020/21 Summer Olympic games that were held in Tokyo, Cashin did not run her best time but still finished the race in a respectable 13th place, making her a top 15 athlete in the event in the entire world.
However, these games hope to be different for Cashin who has dropped nearly 13 seconds off of her time from three seasons ago. A new best time by a couple of seconds could result in a podium appearance for the Australian, and lifelong Mountaineer.
The women’s 3,000-meter steeple chase heats will take place starting a 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 4, and the Finals for the event will be held at 3:10 p.m. on Tuesday August 6.
