Announced earlier this afternoon, West Virginia’s 18 varsity sports will all wear a commemorative logo on their uniforms to honor Jerry West. There will also be a culminating weekend with a men’s basketball game that will be dedicated in his memory.
The commemorative logo will make it’s official debut tonight, as women’s soccer will kick-off their season against Delaware at 7 p.m. From there, the logo will appear on athlete’s uniforms, warm-up gear or helmets depending on their sport. It will be worn throughout the entire 2024-25 season.
The men’s basketball game that will be dedicated to West has yet to be announced. It will be determined once the Big 12 Conference finalizes the men’s basketball schedule. However, specialized commemorative items will be available to purchase during the game, including a miniature replica of the Jerry West statue that’s outside of the Coliseum. In addition, the men’s basketball team will wear throwback uniforms from the Jerry West era. They will be similar to the throwbacks won in 2004, which is when WVU celebrated 100 Years of Mountaineer Basketball.
The West No.44 logo will also be featured on the sidelines of the Coliseum and all of the all promotional material for men’s basketball. Teams will also honor West throughout the year with video packages that will be posted on social media.
