MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Sept. 3, 2024) – Graduate student Simon Carlson of the West Virginia University men’s soccer team has been named the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week. He also earned a spot on the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week.
Carlson tallied eight points in two games this past week for the Mountaineers, scoring three goals and collecting two assists. He now has four assists on the season, tied for most in the nation.
The Kennesaw, Georgia native opened the week with two goals and an assist in a 4-0 win over Saint Francis before registering a goal and an assist in another 4-0 win over George Washington.
Carlson is the second straight Mountaineer to take home the Sun Belt honor after graduate student Sergio Ors Navarro won it with a hat trick performance in week one of the season. Overall, Carlson is the fifth WVU player to earn Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week in the last three seasons since joining the conference.
West Virginia will be back on the pitch this Friday, Sept. 6, at California Baptist. Kickoff is set for 10 p.m. ET.
