The NFL season begins Thursday when the Baltimore Ravens travel to take on the defending back-to-back Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs.
The following looks at some former Mountaineers and where they stand heading into the 2024 season.
Beanie Bishop
Pittsburgh Steelers Cornerback Beanie Bishop was named to the active 53-man roster to begin the season and is listed as the starting nickelback corner. Bishop was a consensus All-American for WVU last season in his first year in Morgantown and last year in college football. He went undrafted, was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Steelers, and has ultimately impressed so far in his professional career.
Bryce Ford-Wheaton
New York Giants wide receiver Bryce Ford-Wheaton was named to the active 53-man roster when camp broke. He missed his entire rookie season last year due to an ACL injury and is currently listed on the depth chart as one of six wide receivers. The Giants will host the Minnesota Vikings in the season opener at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Dante Stills
Cardinals defensive end Dante Stills is entering his second career season in the NFL. Looking to build off a solid rookie campaign that led to 47 total tackles, 18 solo and 3.5 sacks, which was the 13th most for all qualified rookie defensive lineman in 2023.
Kyzir White
Entering his seventh NFL season and second with the Arizona Cardinals, White is coming off a season in which he played in 11 games, recording 53 total tackles, 2 sacks and an interception. The Cardinals will travel to Buffalo to take on the Bills at 1 pm on Sunday.
David Long Jr
Miami Dolphins starting Left Inside Linebacker David Long Jr. is coming off a season in which he appeared in a career-high 17 games, recording career-highs in total tackles (113), solo tackles (64) and a sack. The Miami Dolphins will host the Jacksonville Jaguars at home on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Geno Smith
Seattle Seahawks starting QB Geno Smith, entering his third season as the Seahawks starter is looking to get the team back to the playoffs after missing them in 2023. Smith is coming off a season in which he posted 3,624 yards with a 20/9 TD/INT ratio and a 92.1 passer rating. The Seahawks will welcome the Denver Broncos on Sunday at 4:25pm.
Rasul Douglas
Buffalo Bills cornerback Rasul Douglas was named a starter after recording a season with 5 interceptions, during which he was traded from Green Bay to Buffalo.
Tony Fields II
Cleveland Browns Linebacker Tony Fields II was named a second-string ahead of the week one matchup against the Dallas Cowboys at 4:25 pm, Sunday. Fields is coming off his second straight season, in which he appeared in 17 games, recording 34 total tackles, 16 being solo.
Zach Frazier
Steelers second-round rookie Zach Frazier was named Pittsburgh’s starting center ahead of the week one away matchup against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday at 1 p.m. Head coach Mike Tomlin has praised Frazier all off-season, stating that he is “largely satisfied” with his performance throughout camp.
