With week one of the 2024 NFL season officially in the books, we look at some former Mountaineers and their performances during the first week of the new season.
Beanie Bishop
Steelers slot cornerback Beanie Bishop, making his NFL debut, recorded four solo tackles and allowed four receptions on 33 defensive snaps. Bishop’s performance would give him a 65.4 PFF grade in the 18-10 win against the Falcons on the road. The Steelers will travel to Denver to take on the Broncos next Sunday at 4:25 pm EST.
Kyzir White
The seventh-year linebacker playing in his second season for the Arizona Cardinals had a rough season opener in a 34-28 loss at home to the Buffalo Bills. White recorded six solo tackles but allowed six receptions on seven attempts. White was given a 27.4 PFF grade for the week. White will look to bounce back next Sunday at home against the Los Angeles Rams at 4:25 pm EST.
David Long Jr
The Miami Dolphins Linebacker entering his sixth professional season finds himself in a big role in the Miami defense. In a 20-17 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, Long would record seven solo tackles. The Dolphins will host the Buffalo Bills this Thursday at 8:15 pm EST on Amazon Prime Video.
Geno Smith
In the Seahawks home-opener, Quarterback Geno Smith had a solid performance with 171 passing yards, a touchdown and an interception to go along with a 72.5 Quarterback rating. The highlight of Smith’s day came with just under six minutes left in the second quarter when Smith took off for a 34-yard touchdown, amounting to 34 of his 40 rushing yards in the 26-20 win over the Denver Broncos, the rush was the longest of his career. The Seahawks will travel to New England to play the Patriots at 1 pm, Sunday.
Rasul Douglas
Buffalo Bills cornerback Rasul Douglas, who was listed as one of the defensive starters, recorded one solo tackle and allowed two receptions on two targets. This performance would give Douglas a 63.3 PFF grade. The Bills will travel to Miami to play the Dolphins on Thursday Night Football.
Tony Fields
Cleveland Browns linebacker Tony Fields recorded one solo tackle in Cleveland’s 33-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys at home on Sunday. Fields also suffered an ankle injury that head coach Kevin Stefanski referred to as ‘week to week’. The Browns will look to bounce back this Sunday in Jacksonville at 1 pm EST.
Zach Frazier
Steelers starting center Zach Frazier made his NFL debut this Sunday in an 18-10 win on the road against the Atlanta Falcons. The rookie played all 66 of the team’s offensive snaps in the game. Frazier was given a 70.1 PFF grade. Pittsburgh will travel to take on the Denver Broncos on Sunday at 4:25 pm EST.
