The West Virginia women’s soccer team kicked off Big 12 play Thursday at home with a 2-0 win against Kansas State.
The Mountaineers dominated Kansas State all night and outshot them 9-2 throughout the first half.
WVU got out to a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute courtesy of a goal by Fifth-year midfielder AJ Rodriguez. They would be able to hold onto that lead for the rest of the game.
In the second half, the Mountaineers’ defense held Kansas State to zero shots, while they had 8.
An Insurance goal came in the 76th minute of the game, thanks to Senior defender Lisa Schöppl, who scored on a header off a free kick by Chloe Adler, who was credited with the assist.
The Mountaineers’ record improves to 5-2-1 on the season and 1-0 in the Big 12. They will take on Kansas on Sunday at home at 1 p.m., and the game will be televised on ESPN+.
