MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Oct. 2, 2024) – Two-time All-American and fifth-year senior Peyton Hall (165) and sophomore All-American Ty Watters (149) have been selected to represent the West Virginia University wrestling program at the 2024 NWCA All-Star Classic in State College, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, Nov. 16.
The duo join Jim Akerly (1987), Scott Collins (1991), Mark Banks (1991), Keith Taylor (1991), Dean Morrison (1994), Mike Mason (1998), Vertus Jones (1999), Ryan Kehler (2001), Greg Jones (2003, 2004 and 2005) and Zeke Moisey (2015) as the 11th and 12th Mountaineers to be featured on the card of the annual showcase. It’s also the third time that West Virginia has sent two grapplers to compete at the event in the same year (1991 and 1994).
“This is really great for our program,” seventh-year WVU coach Tim Flynn said. “It’s always a good thing to have basically 1/10th of the guys competing in the Division I All-Star meet from West Virginia University.”
Hall, ranked No. 4 by FloWrestling, battles 2024 All-American and No. 3 Hunter Garvin of Stanford in a rematch from last year’s NCAA Championships, while No. 3 Watters faces 2023 All-American and No. 2 Shayne Van Ness of Penn State.
Tickets for the star-studded event are available at Ticketmaster and fans not in attendance can stream all of the action live exclusively on FloWrestling.
This prestigious event began in 1967 and was a staple of the college season until 2017. After a four-year hiatus, the All-Star Classic returned in 2022 in Austin, Texas, due largely to the support of the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
