According to reports, the NCAA DI Council has approved a ruling to eliminate the National Letter of Intent (NLI).

Athletes and programs/universities are expected to come to financial aid and scholarship agreements instead. NLI is a binding agreement used in the past for student-athlete prospects to agree to a commitment to a university within a signing period while receiving athletic financial aid.

The NCAA is believed to be getting closer to allowing Power Four programs to pay student-athletes directly, with a cap expected to be $20 million per calendar year. That ruling may complement the ruling eliminating NLI.

DI athletics’s landscape has undergone drastic changes in the last few years. On Tuesday, it was reported that transfer portal windows would be reduced from 45 to 30 days.
