Since her arrival at WVU three seasons ago, JJ Quinerly has only gotten better year after year for WVU Women’s Basketball. After a 2023-24 season that saw Quinerly voted as All Big 12 First team, All Big 12 Defensive First Team, and Big 12 Defensive Player of the year, the question stands at just how much better can the Mountaineer shooting guard get?

Well for Quinerly, everything starts with her defense. At the Big 12 Media Day on Tuesday afternoon, the Norfolk, VA native spoke about how she has bene able to create her offense through her defense.

“I think my defense leads to my offense if I’m playing good on defense. I’m probably going to go in transition where I’m good at and score the ball so just that desire to want to do it honestly.”

It’s weird to say that a 19.8 points per game scorer would need to improve their offensive game, but that was the full focus this offseason for Quinerly.

“I focused more on my release, releasing the ball quicker, and catch and shoot threes. And dribbling to my three-point shot, shooting behind screens just getting  that third level of my game a little better.”

Quinerly will look to lead the 16th ranked Mountaineers to a very successful season after being unanimously selected as a preseason All Big-12 First Team.
