The West Virginia women’s volleyball team took home a conference win against Colorado Wednesday evening.
With a score of 3-1, this marks their second win in the Big 12. This match was the first meeting between the two teams.
In set one, both teams had 12 kills. WVU pulled away with seven aces over the Buffaloe’s three. The Mountaineers started off strong 1-0.
In a back-and-forth second set, Colorado came out on top with a score of 25-23. While WVU still recorded more kills and aces, the Buffaloes put down six blocks over the Mountaineers’ one. An attack error by graduate student Lauren DeLo allowed Colorado to secure the second set.
Dominating offensively, the Mountaineers took sets three and four both with a score of 25-17. They recorded 16 kills in each set compared to Colorado’s nine in set three and 11 in set four.
Senior Hailey Green led WVU with 21 kills in the game. Redshirt junior Cassidy Tanton was not far behind with 15 kills. Seeing more time on the court, DeLo led both teams with 42 assists and 14 digs.
The Mountaineers now have an 8-11 overall record (2-6 Big 12). They will play Texas Tech at home this Saturday at noon.
