The West Virginia women’s soccer team ended the regular season on a high note, defeating Houston 4-1 on the road Friday.
The Mountaineers scored three unanswered and held onto the lead as they brought home the victory.
Ajanae Respass scored a goal in the 19th minute to get WVU on the board early. This was the only score of the first half.
Madness occurred in the 54th minute as Taylor White scored two goals for West Virginia roughly 30 seconds apart. Houston answered with their first goal in the 64th minute, off the foot of Cameryn Maddox.
With time expiring in the contest, Abbey Olexa added another goal for WVU, which breezed past the Cougars in a 4-1 victory.
The Mountaineer offense kept Houston defenders busy all night. They took 22 shots, 11 in each half, including 10 on goal.
West Virginia goalkeeper Mackenzie Smith had three saves and one goal allowed. Houston keeper Maggie Manning had six saves and four goals allowed.
WVU ends their regular season with a record of 12-4-2 (8-2-1 in conference). The Big 12 Tournament begins on Wednesday, Oct. 30, in Kansas City.
