WVU’s senior guard JJ Quinerly earned high praise on Monday, as she was named to the Naismith Player of the Year watch list for 2024-2025.
Quinerly earned All American honorable mention recognition last season as a member of the All-Big 12 First Team and was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. Quinerly led the Mountaineers in scoring, with 19.8 points per game, steals, with 2.94 per game, and three-point percentage, shooting 34.4% from behind the arc.
The Naismith watch list is 50 names strong and highlights the best preseason contenders for one of women’s college basketball’s most prestigious awards. Iowa’s Caitlin Clark took home the award last season before being selected with the top pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
Nine Big 12 players, including Quinerly, are featured on the watch list. Joining Quinerly are graduate students Sarah Andrews from Baylor, Kansas State center Ayoka Lee, and TCU guard Hailey Van Lith, seniors Emily Ryan from Iowa State and Kansas State guard Serena Sundell, juniors Gianna Kneepkens from Utah, and sophomores S’Mya Nichols from Kansas and Iowa State center Audi Crooks.
WVU Women’s Basketball is back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at the WVU Coliseum. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
