After scoring her second brace of the season, junior forward Taylor White of the West Virginia University women’s soccer team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.

White scored the two goals within just 33 seconds of each other in the 50th minute to lift WVU to a 4-1 win over Houston on Oct. 25. The performance marked her second brace of the season, including the second of her career. The first goal was credited as the eventual game winner, her first of the season and the fourth of her career.

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, White is now tied for the team lead with seven goals this season. Her performance helped West Virginia officially clinch the No. 3 seed in the 2024 Big 12 Championship.

West Virginia now looks ahead to the 2024 Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Championship, set for Oct. 30 – Nov. 9 at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. As the No. 3 seed, WVU has earned a first-round bye and will face the winner of a first-round match between No. 6 Kansas vs. No. 11 Arizona State in the quarterfinals on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 9 p.m. ET.

This Week in Men’s Soccer: West Virginia is back home on Thursday, Oct. 31, against Coastal Carolina … kickoff from Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m. … it will be Senior Night for the Mountaineers.

Last Week in Men’s Soccer: The Mountaineers went 1-0-1 with a 2-1 win over Georgia State and a 2-2 draw at James Madison … against the Panthers, graduate student Sergio Ors Navarro and senior Max Trethewey scored goals in the victory … freshman Isaac Scheer, sophomore Constantinos Christou, and senior Carlos Hernando each collected assists … junior Marcus Caldeira and Scheer each scored in the draw at James Madison … Caldeira and Ors Navarro also collected assists in the contest.

This Week in Volleyball: West Virginia will head to Manhattan, Kansas to take on Kansas State on Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m. ET, at the Morgan Family Arena … the Mountaineers will then face No. 9 Kansas in Lawerence on Nov. 2 at 2 p.m., inside of Horejsi Family Volleyball Area.

Last Week in Volleyball: The Mountaineers picked up their second Big 12 win of the season on Oct. 23, against Colorado … WVU took the win on the road over the Buffs in Boulder, 3-1 … WVU returned home on Oct. 26 to Morgantown, and fell 3-2 to Texas Tech on Saturday afternoon … West Virginia was led in both games by senior Hailey Green, who tallied 38 kills at 4.22 kills per set, while hitting .224%.

Notes: West Virginia ranks No. 2 in the Big 12, with 139 service aces in 73 sets to average 1.75 aces per set … redshirt junior Cassidy Tanton ranks No. 7 in the league with .40 aces per set, No. 9 in kills with 3.41 kills per set and No. 10 in points with 3.93 points per set.

This Week in Golf: The Mountaineers will be off from competition until the spring season begins on Feb. 3 at the Battle of Briar’s Creek in John’s Island, South Carolina.

Last Week in Golf: The golf team shot 9-under-par during the final round of the fall season at the White Sands Collegiate at The Ocean Club in Paradise Island, Bahamas … the Mountaineers shot 282-286-279=847 to finish 17-under-par for a fifth-place finish … junior Kaleb Wilson led the way for the Mountaineers, finishing in 10th place with rounds of 68-71-68=207 (-9) … senior Max Green tied for 13th place, recording rounds of 67-71-72=210 (-6), while junior Westy McCabe tied for 18th place with rounds of 72-67-72=211 (-5) … freshman Ryan Leach and senior Todd Duncan posted Top 25 finishes … Leach tied for 22nd place with rounds of 71-72-70=213 (-3), and Duncan tied for 25th place with rounds of 73-70-71-214 (-2) … freshman Nick Turowski shot 4-under-par on Sunday to finish tied for 56th place with rounds of 73-83-68=225 (+9), while senior Pierce Grieve tied for 60th place with rounds of 79-74-74=227 (+11) … McCabe and Leach competed as individuals for WVU.

Last Week in Swimming and Diving: West Virginia began dual meet action on the road against Kentucky … the men’s team narrowly lost, 168-132 … the women’s team fell 222-77.

Notes: Senior Danny Berlitz won three individual events, including the 100 breaststroke (55.51), 200 breaststroke (2:01.70) and 200 individual medley (1:48.76) … sophomore Victoria Kidney was the lone Mountaineer on the women’s team to win an individual event, placing first in the 100 butterfly (57.40) … also for the women’s team, freshman MJ Gilligan was impressive, placing third in the 200 butterfly (2:04.90) and the 200 IM (2:11.55) … senior Conner McBeth earned another win for WVU, placing first in the 100 freestyle (45.11) … in the diving well, sophomore Owen Recker was fantastic on the 3-meter, placing first with 340.05 total points. Recker also placed second on the 1-meter with 309.53 points.

Last Week in Rifle: West Virginia defeated Mount Aloysius 4744-4530 on Saturday … WVU claimed smallbore and air rifle with marks of 2361 and 2383, respectively … The score in smallbore is the best in the nation this season … The aggregate total matches the best mark this season for WVU and is the third highest in the nation… Barnick finished his afternoon at the top of the leaderboard with a score of 1188 … He also finished first in air rifle with a 598 and tied second in smallbore with a 590 … All three marks set a new season high … Ashlyn Blake finished first in smallbore with a 592.

Notes: The Mountaineers have won 18 straight regular season matches … Jon Hammond collected his 200th career win against No. 5 Georgia Southern … the Mountaineers’ 4737.3 aggregate, 2354.5 smallbore and 2382.7 air rifle averages are the second best in the nation … Ashlyn Blake is averaging a team-leading 1185.5 aggregate average which is the seventh best in the country … Camryn Camp’s 596.5 air rifle average is the 11th best in the nation … Blake’s 590.2 smallbore average is the seventh best mark in the country and leads WVU.
