West Virginia women’s basketball head coach Mark Kellogg addressed the media earlier today, with the new season set to begin in less than seven days.
“We’re still trying to find our identity, and I didn’t really like the identity. I thought we lost some of our pressure and you know just some of those things that have made us really good over the last year, so it was really just getting back to who we are,” Kellogg said. “I think we got a little comfortable and so we needed to get little uncomfortable again.”
When asked if the style of play will be different from last year, Kellogg said, “There will be some subtle differences. I mean I think to the general person if you just came and watched us play, no I don’t know that you would think this is entirely different.”
Coach Kellogg mentioned very minor injuries, but nothing season ending or even week to week, which is always a positive.
West Virginia’s season ended last year at the hands of Caitlin Clark, the No. 1 WNBA draft pick, with a 64-54 loss to Iowa in the second round of the NCAA March Madness tournament.
The Mountaineers will open their season at home against Towson University on Nov. 5, with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
