MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Nov. 1, 2024) – For the third consecutive year, the West Virginia University wrestling team opens its season at the Southeast Open on Saturday, Nov. 2. Tournament action is set to start at 9 a.m. ET inside the Cregger Center on the campus of Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia.
Fans can stream all the action live on FloWrestling. Live scoring and interactive brackets are also available through FloArena.
“We are excited about the wrestling season starting this weekend and can’t wait to wrestle someone other than each other,” seventh-year head coach Tim Flynn said.
Flynn and his staff are bringing 29 wrestlers, including four unattached, to take part in the program’s fifth appearance at the annual event. WVU’s last appearance came at the start of the 2023-24 season, where the Gold and Blue came out of the tournament with 16 top-six finishes.
Teams joining WVU in Salem include No. 7 Virginia Tech and No. 24 North Carolina, as well as Campbell (16) and Maryland (4), who both received votes in the first NWCA Division I Wrestling Coaches Poll. Appalachian State, Chattanooga, Cleveland State, Davidson, Franklin & Marshall, Gardner-Webb, Morgan State, North Dakota State, Virginia and VMI complete the list of Division I programs attending.
Division II Newberry College and Division III Ferrum College will also be competing, along with a variety of club teams.
In the polls, West Virginia earned a spot on the NWCA Preseason Poll for the first time since 2016, while six members of the squad enter the season ranked in FloWrestling’s top-25 of their respective weight classes. This list includes fifth-year senior Peyton Hall (No. 4-165), redshirt senior Dennis Robin (No. 24-184), senior Jett Strickenberger (No. 18-125), redshirt junior Jordan Titus (No. 15-141), redshirt sophomore Brody Conley (No. 23-174) and sophomore Ty Watters (149-No. 3).
