West Virginia hosted Glenville State in their first dual match of the season on Wednesday and faced little trouble in a 35-10 victory.
The match started at 125 and the Mountaineers went on an early run, with some wrestlers bumping up a weight class. Jace Shaffer got the nod at 125 and picked up a major decision to get WVU up 4-0 to get things going.
From 133-157, West Virginia picked up all technical falls. No. 18 (at 125) Jett Strickenberger, No. 16 Jordan Titus, No. 3 Ty Watters and Caleb Dowling made the match 24-0.
Guy Deleonardis picked up a major decision over WVU’s Trey Johnson, making the match 24-4. No. 3 (at 165) Peyton Hall helped the Mountaineers respond, picking up a technical fall, pushing the match 29-5.
Glenville State won back-to-back decisions at 184 and 197. As the match sat at 29-10 heading into the final bout, West Virginia heavyweight Michael Wolfgram closed it out with a pin and the Mountaineers won 35-10.
WVU’s next contest is an away dual against Rider on Thursday, Nov. 14.
