Three West Virginia wrestlers competed at the Bob Del Rosa Open at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio and all three wrestlers placed.
In the 133 open bracket, Tommy Maddox competed for WVU and took home third place. In the round of 16, he picked up a technical fall before securing a major decision in the quarterfinals. He was defeated in the semi-finals by Cleveland State’s Jake Manley. Wrestling for third place, he notched another technical fall.
Mason Kernan was the 133 freshman/sophomore champion. On the way to the finals, he picked up two technical falls and a major decision. In the championship, he squeezed out a 7-5 decision over Tanner Tishner who was wrestling unattached for the University of Indianapolis.
Dennis Robin was also a champion in the 184 open bracket. He had little trouble in the round of 16 and the quarterfinals, picking up two technical falls. In the semi-finals, he won by a 12-6 decision and a 4-2 decision over Carson Thomas, who was wrestling unattached.
No. 18 West Virginia travels to Lawrenceville, New Jersey to take on Rider on Thursday. The match will begin at 7 p.m. EST and be streamed on ESPN+.
