The last home game at Milan-Puskar Stadium ended with a win for the Mountaineers and secured them bowl eligibility.

On The Ground

West Virginia has had most of its success this year when establishing the run early and getting good gains out of its three-headed backfield, which includes CJ Donaldson, Jaheim White, and Garrett Greene’s quarterback legs. Yesterday, they accomplished that, rushing for 200 yards and three rushing touchdowns.

Special Teams

The silent killer for WVU this season has been their special teams unit. A lot of the time, these plays go unnoticed, but the Mountaineer unit makes themselves seen week in and week out. Kicker Michael Hayes II made his lone field goal attempt from 35 yards out and made all four extra-point attempts. Oliver Straw had four punts, two of those being pinned inside the 20. And return man Preston Fox had two returns for 76 yards and a long of 40 yards, putting WVU in great field position.

Fight

It was fitting for this senior group to clinch bowl eligibility in their final game in Morgantown. The Mountaineers could have come out flat, not ready to go after the way their season was turning on them, but that wasn’t the case. The last time WVU lost five games at home was 1990. They avoid that by winning here. Although expectations for the squad may not have been met, you have to give them credit for battling until the very last whistle, and I’m sure they will give a safe effort in these last two games of the 2024-25 season.

West Virginia heads south to take on Texas Tech in their final regular season game of the year. With a win here and a potential bowl win, WVU would finish 8-5, one win less than last year.
