West Virginia travels to Lubbock to take on Texas Tech in the regular season finale.
The Mountaineers are coming off a 31-21 win against UCF at home in their last contest. They are 6-5 (5-3 in conference play) this season.
The Red Raiders picked up a high-scoring victory over Oklahoma State in their last outing. They are 7-4 (5-3 conference) this season.
Our staff gives their predictions:
Ryan Roddy: A win on the road to end the regular season would be huge for WVU. They are currently undefeated in conference games on the road this season. Texas Tech has one of the highest-scoring and overall best total offenses among power four this season, but their defense has lacked at times. It all starts with Tahj Brooks on offense for the Red Raiders. He has 14 rushing touchdowns and over 1,300 rushing yards this season, averaging five yards per carry. For West Virginia, they’ve been streaky at times, but it will all come down to their defense in this one. They’ve struggled to stop the pass and will need to create turnovers. If the Mountaineers can also get a passing game going centered around Hudson Clement, that’d also be huge for their success. Overall, I predict a high-scoring affair, with whoever’s defense can get the more crucial stop taking this one.

Tanner Mountz: The final week of the season is here and there is not much to play for at this point for WVU. While they are technically still in contention for a spot in the Big 12 Championship game, the Mountaineers would need about 6 different outcomes to go their way partnered with a win this week in order to sneak their way in. The main thing this team will be playing for is potentially Neal Brown’s job. Both the coaches and players this week have talked about how a 7-5 season looks a lot better than a 6-6 one, and they cannot be more true. It will be interesting to see what kind of team comes out to play for WVU with not a whole lot at stake on paper. The Mountaineers have been very good on the road this season as well, and are currently undefeated in Big 12 play as the visiting team. It will be tough to end the year with the same result on the road as Texas Tech brings a very balanced attack and strong defense. One of the toughest places to play in the Big 12 will give WVU one last challenge on what has been a rocky year.
Texas Tech 31, West Virginia 17
RJ Russell: I believe that this game will be very high scoring and the Mountaineers will come out on top with a field goal late in the game. Texas Tech has a very explosive offense that plays at a very high tempo, it will be important for WVU to slow down their tempo and try to keep the defense off the field. I think that both defenses will struggle on Saturday but ultimately WVU comes out on top on a late field goal to give them the 33-31 lead.
West Virginia 33, Texas Tech 31
Joe Antenucci: West Virginia heads down south to take on Texas Tech in the final regular season game of the 2024-25 season. Both teams bowl eligible, will fight for one more win to cap off their year. Texas Tech has been playing their best football of late, and the Mountaineers are coming off a home win versus UCF. The Red Raiders will honor more than 20 seniors for “Senior Day” with hopes of not getting the day spoiled by the road dog. Tech has won four of the last five matchups, but WVU winning the most recent last year. It’ll be a hard fought battle, but I will go with the home team to close out their season.
