The No. 12-ranked West Virginia women’s basketball team defeated Boise State 82-47 to advance to the finals in the Gulf Coast Classic finals matchup.
The Mountaineers continue their streak of defeating every one of their opponents by 20+ points while forcing 20 or more turnovers. They forced 23 Boise State turnovers on Saturday. Off of those turnovers, WVU scored 27 points.
WVU jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. At the end of the first quarter, West Virginia led 22-6.
Their suffocating defense continued to be dominant. In the game, they had 14 steals.
While they struggled from three, which is uncharacteristic of the Mountaineers, they still shot well overall, making just under 49% from the field.
WVU guard Sydney Shaw led all scorers with 20 points. She also had two steals and a block. JJ Quinerly had 14 points, five assists, three rebounds and three steals.
West Virginia out-rebounded the Broncos and held them to 31.4% shooting.
With the win, West Virginia improves to 8-0 on the season. They’ll face the winner of No. 5 Texas and Butler, which is being played at 7:30 EST.
