As first reported by CBS Sports’s Matt Zenitz, the West Virginia Mountaineers head football coach Neal Brown was let go on Sunday afternoon by athletic director Wren Baker.
The firing comes on the wheels of the team’s grueling 52-15 loss Saturday afternoon,
Neal Brown’s tenure at West Virginia culminated with a 37-35 overall record, and 25-28 in Big 12 play.
Brown returned to Morgantown Saturday evening with the team, amid many rumors swirling on social media. Brown was rumored to have met with Baker following the return trip from Texas.
The football program called a Sunday afternoon team meeting on the precipice of the announcement.
The Mountaineers finished the regular season 6-6, and will await any post-season bowl game until Selection Sunday, next week on December.
Expect AD Wren Baker and staff to start the coach search immediately.
