The West Virginia men’s basketball team will face Georgetown at home for The Big 12-Big East Battle Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Coliseum. Both teams head into the game following wins: the Mountaineers over No. 24 Arizona and the Hoyas over UMBC.

This matchup will mark the 54th all-time meeting between the two teams since 1922. Georgetown holds the upper hand with a record of 27-26 in the series. The last meeting between the two was on Dec. 6, 2020, in Washington, D.C. The Mountaineers brought an 80-71 victory home to Morgantown.

West Virginia head coach Darian DeVries shared a game plan for Friday evening. The team returned from the Bahamas on Saturday evening, rested on Sunday, and was back in the gym on Monday.

“The guys feel good. I think they feel back refreshed and ready to go. We are excited to be back at home and got another really good opponent coming in here,” said DeVries.

Friday’s Gold Rush will be the first time the new team will see a packed Coliseum. DeVries shared that this game will be a great one for the Mountaineer fan base and is looking forward to seeing how his players respond after coming off a win.

“I told the guys we have not arrived. This is not the end game. Our goal is to continue to improve, continue to get better, and maximize what this group is capable of,” said Devries. “They have a very positive outlook towards practice and approach to it. They are continuing to want to get coached and want to get better.”

The Mountaineers look to even out their record in the historic series against Georgetown.
