Following a third-place finish during the Battle 4 Atlantis holiday tournament, the Mountaineers return to Morgantown to take on Georgetown on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. Senior Tucker DeVries shared that the team plays with a similar mindset during game time but could not be more different off the court.

“I think the similarities between us are honestly that we all work really hard and want to win. I think off the court, people might not realize how different we are, but that’s what makes the team so special,” said DeVries.

With players from all over the country and a few from overseas, the team’s downtime involves sharing food, music, and interests.

“Some of the guys have never been golfing, so I’m going to try to take them out golfing once it gets warm,” DeVries said.

The senior said that being around guys from all over allows the team to experience things they may have never experienced before. An Iowa native, DeVries misses a certain grocery store from back home the most.

“I’d say the thing I miss is the grocery store market that would have meals. The Gateway Market, I kind of miss the convenience of it, but there’s good food here too so I’m not struggling too bad,” said DeVries.

The Mountaineers will apply their winning mindset Friday evening as they look for another win to add to their record. West Virginia has a record of 5-2, and Georgetown has an overall record of 7-1.
