It was a magical season for WVU Alum Geno Smith and the Seattle Seahawks that ended up falling just short.
For a large portion of the season, Smith was actually the leader in passing yards before going down with an injury late in the year that sidelined Smith for over a game and a half.
It was a close three way battle for the NFC West title between Smith’s Seahawks, the Arizona Cardinals, and the Los Angels Rams.
However, after the Cardinals had suffered a few late season losses, the race quickly shifted between the red hot Rams and the Seahawks.
On Saturday night, the Rams narrowly defeated the Seahawks to keep their one game lead over Seattle with only one week remaining, clinching the division title and a playoff birth since they held the tiebreaker over the Seahawks.
The only other path to the playoffs for Smith and the Seahawks was to end their season beating the Rams and having the Washington Commanders lose their last two games against the Falcons on Sunday night, and the Dallas Cowboys the following week.
After the Commanders were able to beat the Falcons in overtime Saturday night, Smith and the Seahawks have offically been elimated.
Smith so far this season has thrown for 4,097 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions all while completing 70.2% of his passes.
