The West Virginia men’s basketball head coach Darian DeVries was awarded the Jim Phelan award “Mid-Season” honors. This award is presented the top head coach in division I basketball and is determined by a 10-member voting committee.

DeVries is in his first season with the Mountaineers, where he has already surpassed last season’s win total of nine with a record of 12-4 (3-2 in Big 12). DeVries also led West Virginia to their first program win at Kansas.

The Mountaineers entered the AP poll rankings for the first time in two years and currently sit at No. 25 in the USA Today Coaches poll.

The 2025 award will be announced in San Antonio, TX where the men’s Division I Basketball Championship is held.
