After falling to No. 20 last week, WVU Women’s Basketball is on the rise again, now at No. 16.
West Virginia took care of two teams in the middle of the Big 12 standings this week in dominant fashion. In two games at home, WVU beat Colorado 73-46 on Wednesday and Iowa State 82-68 on Sunday.
The Mountaineers are now 15-3 overall and 5-2 in Big 12 play. They are tied with formerly ranked Oklahoma State for fourth in the conference.
WVU is turning heads nationally with its unique defensive style. The Mountaineers are second in the NCAA in turnovers forced and steals per game, at 25.94 per game and 14.8 per game. Only Longwood tops WVU in both stats.
Seniors JJ Quinerly and Kyah Watson both rank in the top 20 nationally in steals per game, standing at ninth and 16th respectively. They are the only duo in the NCAA to both average over three steals per contest.
West Virginia stands among three other Big 12 teams in the AP poll, alongside No. 9 TCU, No. 10 Kansas State, and No. 25 Baylor.
Mark Kellogg’s squad will take a trip to the other side of the conference this week to play Arizona State and Arizona in Tempe and Tucson. Both teams have losing records in Big 12 play.
