The West Virginia women’s basketball team blew out Arizona State in an all-around great showing today for the Mountaineers. WVU won by a score of 89-59 to improve its record to 16-3 (6-2 in the Big 12).
The Mountaineers jumped out of the gate quickly, taking a 28-9 at the end of the first quarter. After a slow second quarter in which the Sun Devils outscored them, they came out of halftime firing on all cylinders.
JJ Quinerly led the way for the Mountaineers, scoring a game-high 29 points to go along with four assists. Kylee Blacksten also had a tremendous day for the Mountaineers, scoring a season-high 24 points.
After a tough loss to Oklahoma State two games ago, the Mountaineers have bounced back, beating their last two opponents by an average of 27 points per game. JJ Quinerly continues to be a star for the Mountaineers, averaging 18.4 points per game this season.
The Mountaineers looked like a team that could potentially make a run in the tournament this year. They will continue this road trip with a game against Arizona on Jan. 25, then return home for a rematch against Oklahoma State.
