WVU women’s basketball defeated Oklahoma State 54-37 at home Saturday afternoon.
West Virginia hosted Oklahoma State for their annual Pink Out/Alumni game. The Mountaineers got off to a hot start defensively in the first quarter, forcing nine turnovers and holding Oklahoma State to just six points in the quarter. On the offensive side of the ball, they started slowly, finishing the first quarter with a 10-6 lead and shooting just 25% from the field.
The Mountaineers continued to play relentless defense into the second quarter by holding OSU without a point for the first five minutes of the quarter. They went into the half with a score of 31-23. Sydney Shaw and JJ Quinerly led the Mountaineers in the first half with seven points each.
In the third quarter, Shaw was on fire, making three of her four shots for eight points. She finished the game with a team-high 18 points. Quinerly had 15 points and led the team with eight steals. Kyah Watson had a big day defensively hauling in nine rebounds and forcing four steals.
Oklahoma State outscored the Mountaineers 37-31 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the first-half deficit.
