50 players made the midseason watch list for one of college basketball’s most prestigious awards on Monday, and one of them comes from West Virginia.
Senior guard Javon Small continues to make noise after transferring in-conference to WVU from Oklahoma State this season. Now on his resume is being named to the midseason watch list for the Oscar Robertson Trophy, awarded every season to the most outstanding men’s collegiate basketball player.
The award, first presented in 1959, stands out as the oldest award of its kind. The United States Basketball Writers Association is responsible for selecting the winner out of all Division I players, which will be announced at the NCAA Men’s Final Four in San Antonio this April.
Small is one of seven players from the Big 12 on the award’s watch list. Joining him are Arizona’s Caleb Love, Baylor’s Norchad Omier, Iowa State’s Keshon Gilbert and Curtis Jones, Houston’s Emanuel Sharp, and Hunter Dickinson from Kansas.
Javon Small is averaging 19 points, 5.1 assists, 4.7 rebounds, 1.8 steals, and 0.5 blocks in 36 minutes per game this season. He most recently recorded 19 points, nine assists, two blocks, two steals, and a rebound on 4-for-7 shooting from three and 6-for-14 shooting from the field against Cincinnati on Sunday.
