In an insightful conversation held on “Big Twelve Today” hosted by “TuneIn” newly named West Virginia University Football Head Coach Rich Rodriguez discussed the meteoric rise of his former Kicker and Punter, Pat McAfee. Pat McAfee is one of the hottest names in the “Sports and Entertainment” industry. With his unique blend of humor, charisma, and sharp sports insight, Pat McAfee’s success in the world of broadcasting has been nothing short of extraordinary.

Rodriguez, who has witnessed McAfee’s journey firsthand, offered his perspective on what makes the former special teams player stand out in the crowded media landscape. “He was always one of the hardest working guys” said Coach Rodriguez. “Whether he was working on his craft or working on studying, he does it the same way now” added Coach Rodriguez.

That work ethic and determination to succeed turned McAfee into WVU Football’s all-time leading scorer in points. In addition, McAfee acquired additional accolades during his college career such as becoming a Lou Groza Award semi-finalist, a Ray Guy Award Finalist, and being named a second-team all Big East player. McAfee’s dedication to hard work and success followed him to the next level as he was selected in the 7th round of the 2009 “NFL Draft” by the Indianapolis Colts. During his eight-year tenure with the Colts, punted for a total of 26,669 yards, boasting a career average of 46.4 yards per punt.

After retiring from the NFL in 2016, McAfee started to pursue media and would eventually burst onto the scene with his hit sports talk show “The Pat McAfee Show”. Which is not a surprise to his former Head Coach, Rich Rodriguez, who believes that Pat has always had a special ability to talk to people.

In his interview Rodriguez stated that Pat “did a lot of talking” and went on to say, “Pat can talk like the best of them”.  Between his ability to talk and his humorous personality McAfee has become a media sensation. From bringing extra life to “College Gameday” to showcasing his authentic personality on “The Pat McAfee Show”, Pat has truly built something special, and his former coach could not be prouder of how far he has come.
