The WVU women’s tennis team started Big Twelve Conference play on a low not. The Mountaineers lost to No. 41 TCU, 4-0 on Friday in Fort Worth, Texas.
Senior Mille Haagensen and freshman Lyla Byers were defeated by No. 24 Jade Otway and Isabel Pascual in the No. 1 seed doubles match with a score of 6-1. In the No. 3 seed doubles match, the pair Julie Bousseau and Tatiana Lipatova lost, 6-2. Finally, the No. 2 seed pairing of Michaela Kucharova and Laura Villanueva Morillo’s match went unfinished with a final score of 2-4.
The losses did not end there. In singles play, the Horned Frogs kept the lead and dominance going. Sophomore Maja Dodik lost to TCU’s Isabel Pascual, 6-0, 6-1, in the No. 3 spot. Then Laura Villanueva Morillo and Susannah Su lost in their individual matches while the rest of the matches went unfinished as TCU took the 4-0 victory over the Mountaineers. Millie Haagensen, Julie Bousseau, and Lyla Byers all had their matches go unfinished as the Mountaineers took their unsurmountable 4-0 loss at the hands of the Horned Frogs.
The Mountaineers look to bounce back on March 1st in their match on the road against the Baylor Bears in Waco, Texas. This was definitely not the way the Mountaineers looked to start their season, so a win over Baylor would be a huge morale boost heading back to Morgantown.
