The West Virginia women’s basketball team fell to TCU in the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament by a score of 65-71.
TCU made it on the board first but West Virginia quickly responded with a three-pointer by Kylee Blacksten to take the lead less than a minute into the game. After back-and-forth play, the Horned Frogs went on an 8-0 run finishing the quarter leading by just four points.
The Mountaineers kept their speed up early into the second quarter until the Horned Frogs left them scoreless for four minutes on an 11-0 run. West Virginia struggled to return the favor leaving the half down by 15 points.
At the half, West Virginia shot 9-26 from the field with 10 of their 25 points in the paint. They suffered six turnovers, allowing TCU nine points.
Kyah Watson started the second half strong with a shot behind the arc to get the Mountaineers on the board first. West Virginia kept their play steady, moving the score gap to just five at the end of the third quarter. With hopes to take the lead, the Mountaineers fell short by just six points at the conclusion of the game.
West Virginia’s JJ Quinerly led all scorers with a total of 20 points. TCU’s Hailey Van Lith put up 19 points followed by Sedona Prince with 18.
The Mountaineers look to turn their game around as the NCAA Tournament approaches.
