Every year, each team on the FBS level has a spring game where coaches can evaluate their talent while fans can see how the team is looking from an outside perspective. This year WVU football is set to have its spring showcase on April 5th.
The WVU football spring showcase is more than just a game; it is an experience for fans all over West Virginia. It is a day full of activities, food, and football.
This year the Powell Brothers will perform at the showcase from 11:00 a.m. ET to 12:30 p.m. ET. They will be accompanied by food trucks, yard games, inflatables, face painting, and other interactive experiences for fans of all ages.
With a brand new roster this season, head coach Rich Rodriguez has already made it clear that this will not showcase the team at their full form. He stated the roster would not be ready until mid-summer.
With all of the unknowns and evaluations that still need to be completed, Rodriguez does not want to showcase his team’s talent to the world, with the risk of players transferring out in the late portal window, which opens up on April 16th.
This is a concern for many teams, and some programs have even canceled their spring game completely. Rodriguez has stated in past interviews that this year’s showcase will be more drills and 1-on-1s, rather than a full game experience.
The gates at Almost Heaven Village will open at 10:00 a.m. ET, and the game is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. ET. It will be interesting to see what head coach Rich Rodriguez will do for the fans, without giving away too much to other teams.
