WVU women’s basketball picked up their third commit in the transfer portal, filling an off-season hole in the Mountaineer lineup. Carter McCray, a 6’1 sophomore center from Wisconsin, committed earlier this morning.
This is a huge get for the Mountaineers, who struggled against size last season. McCray, who averaged 10.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game last season, should be able to fill that role perfectly.
McCray began her career at Northern Kentucky, where she averaged an outstanding 15.7 points and 11.2 rebounds per game while shooting 56% from the field. She then had a great year for the Badgers last year before entering the transfer portal.
She will join Loghan Johnson and Riley Maskalusky in the Mountaineers transfer class thus far; all are proven scorers at the Power 5 level and fit head coach Mark Kellogg’s hardworking attitude.
Kellogg and the rest of his West Virginia staff will continue to find pieces to mold around returners such as Jordan Harrison and Sydney Shaw this offseason, but this is a great start for WVU in the transfer portal.
