With about a month left of the regular season, let’s take a look at which teams currently sit at the top of the Big 12 standings.
Currently on a 10-game win streak, the West Virginia Mountaineers are red hot and are sitting at the top of the Big 12 standings with a conference record of 10-3 and an, overall record of 30-4. This is the highest win percentage in the country. Centerfielder, Skylar King, has led the Mountaineers at the plate with a .377 batting average, 24 RBIs, and a .486 on-base percentage. He also ranks fifth in the Big 12 with 12 stolen bases. Jace Rinehart has shown his big bat with six home runs and 34 RBIs while having a .352 batting average. As a team, the Mountaineers have a .320 batting average and have accumulated 312 runs while holding their opponents to 156 runs. On the mound, senior Reese Bassinger ranks second in the Big 12 with a 2.60 ERA. In his nine starts, Griffin Kirn has 55 strikeouts and has only allowed 41 hits. The Mountaineers take on in-state rival Marshall Tuesday, April 15 as they look to continue their winning streak.
Sitting second in Big 12 standings is the TCU Horned Frogs with a conference record of 11-4 and an overall record of 28-9. Freshman Sawyer Strosnider has led the Horned Frogs at the plate with a .400 batting average, 41 RBIs, and eight home runs. Outfielder Chase Brunson has put up 9 home runs with a .350 batting average. In his nine games started Tommy LaPour has put up a 2.44 ERA while gaining five wins which is tied for second in the Big 12. The Horned Frogs take on Dallas Baptist on Tuesday, April 15 before heading to UCF for a three-game series starting Thursday, April 17.
Third in the standings is the Arizona Wildcats with a conference record of 10-5 and an overall record of 25-10. Junior outfielder Aaron Walton has a .352 batting average with six home runs. Mason White leads the Wildcats with 38 RBIs and seven home runs. Catcher Adonys Guzman has been solid with a .339 batting average and 25 RBIs. Starter Colin McKinney has had a 2.25 ERA through 9 starts while striking out 40. The Wildcats are set to take on Grand Canyon University on Tuesday, April 15 before they travel to BYU for a three-game series starting Thursday, April 17.
Other teams to look out for include Kansas State, Kansas, Arizona State, and Cincinnati. They all sit above the .500 mark in the Big 12 record and are looking to secure a spot in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship tournament.
