WVU football has made another big splash in the portal with the addition of Jaylan Knighton out of SMU. He will bring another dimension to the already elite running back room.

The former four-star prospect out of Lauderhill, Florida, began his career at Miami, where he played for three seasons. In those three seasons, Knighton totaled 1,690 yards and 14 total touchdowns. He was a key piece on a Miami team rebuilding at the time.

Prior to the 2023-2024 season, Knighton decided to transfer to SMU for a bigger opportunity. In that season, Knighton had 136 carries for 745 yards and 8 total touchdowns. He was entering the 2024 offseason expecting to be the star of the Mustangs in his last collegiate year.

Two weeks into the 2024-2025 season, Knighton went down with a bad knee injury and was ruled out for the year shortly after. He was able to maintain his eligibility and then chose to join the Mountaineers.

Knighton will be joining Jaheim White and Tye Edwards in what is now a loaded running back room from top to bottom. If West Virginia can have a powerful offensive line, this could be an elite rushing offense.
