Mark Kellogg’s quest to fill in the holes of his graduated players is turning up gold.
West Virginia signed Houston guard Gia Cooke, the team announced on Saturday. The 5-foot-8 junior will have two seasons of eligibility for the Mountaineers.
Cooke came to Houston in 2023 from Maryland, where she averaged 6.5 minutes and 2.2 points in 25 games. She redshirted her first season with Houston due to injury before bouncing back this past year in a starting role.
In addition to logging decent averages of 12.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 0.9 steals for the season, Cooke also shined against WVU in 2025.
On Feb. 8, Cooke played 39 minutes and tallied 16 points, three rebounds, and four assists at home against the Mountaineers. She shot 5-for-10 from the field and 2-for-3 from distance. WVU defeated Cooke’s Cougars 79-51.
With Cooke’s signing, WVU now has 11 players on the roster for next season, including six guards.
