Rich Rodriguez Speaks to Mountaineer Team in Return to WVU

On Dec. 16, 2007, Rich Rodriguez informed his players he was leaving Morgantown and resigning from his position with the Mountaineers to become the head coach at the University of Michigan.

Almost 17 years later, Rodriguez returns home to Morgantown to coach the Mountaineers and spoke to his new group of unfamiliar faces ahead of his press conference scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.

Coach Rodriguez began his speech to the players by saying, “It is an honor to be here, to be back here. This is my home.”

He continued, “It won’t be easy. I promise you, you’ll probably work harder than you’ve worked in your life. People ask me, ‘What’s hard edge mean?’ That means you’re going to be mentally and physically tougher than anybody and everybody you go up against.”

Rodriguez will address the press tomorrow for the first time since his hiring. The press conference is set to begin at 1:30 p.m. in the WVU Coliseum. The event will be covered by WVU football alum and TV personality Pat McAfee on The Pat McAfee Show.
