On Tuesday, West Virginia and head coach Rich Rodriguez officially announced the addition of Pat Kirkland to the coaching staff as the special teams coordinator and a defensive assistant.
Kirkland worked with Rodriguez for the past three seasons at Jacksonville State as their special teams coordinator/bandits coach and at WVU in 2006 and 2007.
“Pat has years of special teams and defensive experience that will help elevate all phases of our program here at West Virginia,” Rodriguez said in a press release statement. “He has a lot of passion for the state and does an outstanding job in recruiting and developing our players. We’re excited to have him back on our staff again.”
Kirkland, a native of Akron, Ohio, was the head coach of the University of Charleston (West Virginia) for 10 years. He also spent time as the assistant head coach/defensive coordinator for Glenville State and secondary coach at Muskingum, his alma mater.
