West Virginia continues to stand out in the Big 12

After playing 41 games this season, Steve Sabins’s Mountaineers stand out amongst their Big 12 opponents. 

As a team, West Virginia is first in the Big 12 with a 3.68 ERA. In their 367 innings pitched, they have only given up 297 hits. 

Reese Bassinger has been the Mountaineers’ go-to reliever with a 2.98 ERA and five wins. Opponents have a .203 batting average while facing Bassinger. 

Griffin Kirn has been a productive starter for West Virginia with a 4-0 record in his 11 starts. Kirn has a 3.38 ERA this season with 62 strikeouts and a .238 opponent batting average. 

At the plate, the Mountaineers have a .311 team batting average, which is third-best in the Big 12. They have accumulated 442 hits and 357 runs so far this season. 

Center fielder Skylar King has been offensively productive all season with a .362 batting average, which is eighth best in the Big 12. King also has the fourth-best on-base percentage at .471 while also stealing the ninth-most bases at 13.

West is one of three Mountaineers in the top 10 for stolen bases. Armani Guzman is seventh in the Big 12 with 14, and Gavin Kelly is 10th with 13

Kyle West has the fourth-best on-base percentage at .490 while also maintaining a .315 batting average for the season. 

The Mountaineers production has them currently sitting in first place in the Big 12 with a 15-3 conference record and a 36-5 overall record.
