WVU WR Rodney Gallagher III has switched his number from 2 to 24.

The change was noticed by fans on the official WVU roster website and already has created speculation on Gallagher’s role for the team next season. Head coach Neal Brown mentioned the use of Gallagher in the nickel back position in the spring during a press conference on Apr. 17.

Gallagher played in all 13 games last season as a wide receiver, where he compiled 10 catches for 74 yards and had 15 rushes for 87 yards in his freshman season.

The switch from number 2 to 24 would allow Gallagher to see the field on defense during the same time as senior safety Aubrey Burks, who already occupies number 2.

The Uniontown, Pennsylvania native was recruited out of high school as a wide receiver but on the field he played quarterback and defensive back. He also received multiple Power 5 offers as a basketball player.
